News From the Farm: April 13th

Wow, what a first week back! It truly feels like the start of something special, all thanks to you! The support we felt from all of you this past week meant the world. Seeing familiar faces return, welcoming new ones into the market, and hearing your kind words about the first boxes of the season, makes us jump for joy! And if you loved your first box, just wait… we’re just getting started!

It’s been a full week over here to say the least. We spent time reconnecting as a team, getting organized, and settling back into the rhythm of the season. We’re also excited to welcome a few new faces to our team here in the market - Evan, Yolanda, and Mackenzie! Be sure to give them a warm welcome and get to know them the next time you’re in.

Behind the scenes, we are so happy to welcome back Rambo, with Fabion returning to the farm in just a few days. What happens here each week, from the fields to your box, wouldn’t be possible without them. They are a huge part of the heart behind this place, and it always feels complete when everyone is back together.

This stretch of weather has us excited for the warm days ahead. While we aren’t full force out in our fields just yet, our greenhouse is full of life and a glimpse of what’s to come. We’ve already started growing our hanging flower pots, and your favourite  varieties like lavender, marigolds, dianthus, and violas. You can be sure that we are getting ahead with Mother’s Day in mind!

On top of that, our herbs are growing beautifully as well.  We have basil, oregano, cilantro, chives, rosemary, sage, thyme, and even jalapeños are growing a little more each day, soaking up the sunshine. Herbs are always one of the first things we plant because  they grow quickly, are easy to care for, and give us an early taste of the season while we wait for the fields to catch up.

Out in the fields, there’s already something exciting happening. Our garlic has made it through the winter beautifully. Last November, we planted around 10,000 bulbs, which have been quietly growing beneath the soil ever since. There’s something pretty amazing about that, isn’t there? How such a small clove can handle the coldest of days (and love it!) We’ll be harvesting in mid-spring. Lee’s garlic will be here before we know it.

Most of this past week was spent unpacking deliveries, stocking shelves, organizing the market, and getting back into our groove. We like to have fun around here, so we turn up the music and enjoy the process along the way. When you love what you do, it really doesn’t feel like work!

If you haven’t stopped by yet, we’d love to see you. Come explore the market, pick up your farmers market essentials like honey, sourdough, eggs, pickles, you name it.
